Raku Planter

Raku Planter

42.00

These show stopping planters are thrown on the pottery wheel and fired in the ancient Japanese raku technique in a white crackle glaze. Each Raku piece is completely unique and different, featuring beautiful crackles and metallic details.

The Raku process involves firing the pottery until the glaze reaches its melting point. The kiln is then shut off and each piece is pulled individually using raku tongs, and placed into a metal can filled with combustibles. The can is then sealed with a lid where a reduction will take place. The smoke patterns leave a metallic luster and the thermal shock creates the beautiful crackle effect. All of these planters are individual and unique because they are handmade. They do vary slightly in form and crackle effect.
